The Mary Magdalen Dig 2012

Hard to believe the dig's almost over... but yes, this is the last week ArcSoc excavate 'the lepers on the hill'! Good times have been had, bad weather has been bravely endured - with only one day rained off! - and lots of exciting discoveries have emerged out of Trench 14, the Pit, the Cesspit, et al.

Paddy the Site Dog has had a wonderful time doing extra research for his PhD in Barkaeology, chasing frogs and cooling himself in the shade of trench corners, and we had a very successful Open Day attended by many fascinated parents, local organisations and well-wishers. The Finds Room has been kept busy with bits of medieval face jugs, intriguing animal bone and masses of clay pipe, and it's safe to say many of us are now adept with a context sheet - and those who aren't, do mean site drawings. Archaeologists have to be multi talented!
